Hello Family!
So, I have been in Düsseldorf for the last 2.5 days, and it is
super crazy and not at all what I expected haha. I am working with
Elder C, he only has 4 weeks left on His mission. I was pretty
excited to go into an area that was doing good with Investigators and
everything, but, that wasn´t the case haha, they didn´t have any
investigators and basically the entire zone is struggling. In the
entire zone right now, the companionships average 0.3 New
Investigators every 6 weeks. There´s definitely a lot that needs to
be done haha. We´ve been way blessed already though, in the 2 days of
work we´ve had, we have already found 5 new investigators =) There is
tons of potential, and I´m way excited to see how everyone improves
the next couple of weeks. I´ll tell ya about Sunday just so you can
see how awesome things are going.
So basically the Sabbath day is the best day in the world for
missionary work, so it all started at Church. The Sisters had given
us a number for this guy named K, he told the Sisters he would come
to Church and he wanted to learn more. We gave him a call at 10.00 he
had forgotten to change the time(daylight savings), but, he came to
the Church as fast as he could, he came for a while, really liked it,
saw the sisters and told them a promise is a promise haha, and then we
made out another lesson with him. Then later that day we did some
street contacting, we contacted this guy by a potential investigator
who I´ll tell ya about pretty soon, made out an appointment for him 10
minutes later in a restaurant, taught him, and made out another
appointment. Then right after that we went by on a Chinese family that
we had found the day before, who just happened to be the Potential
Investigator we wanted to go-by on before, they let us in, we taught
them, they are awesome and want to learn more. And then there was
this other guy we contacted on the street and talked to for about 20
minutes, he wants to learn more, so we made out a lesson for today.
And then doing some more street contacting, we contacted these 2 guys,
one from Essen, the other from here in Düsseldorf, we asked if they
had 15 minutes to hear our message, they said yeah, but, there was no
bench! So, we walked for about 15 minutes looking for a bench, found
one, taught them and it was super legit. It was a great way to end
the week, and really strengthened our testimonies that there really
are people out there willing to hear our message and learn more.
So.... that´s kinda how things are going now. The difference with
the work now is that we have to do a TON of stuff with the numbers to
see where all of the individual areas are at, so I get to learn how to
use Excel and Word really well, we also have to send these reports to
President Schwartz and talk to him about it every week. Other than
that, everything is basically the same.
I got some more pictures for ya, those are other investigators
that we had been teaching in Offenbach.
The last lesson with F, we actually
talked about Baptism and he said he had been thinking about it.
Things are going great, thanks for everything you do for me!

Hello famly!
I´m getting transferred! =´( I´ve been here for 6 months, I didn´t think that I´d ever get kicked out haha. I´m getting transferred down to Düsseldorf as a zone leader now. I´ll be serving about 15 miles away from my very first area, and my companion is in his very last transfer, and this transfer is a 5 week transfer, so I have 5 weeks to learn one of the largest cities in Germany haha, it´ll be fun. These last couple of days have been basically going by on old investigators and inactive members and saying goodbye, it´s weird, like 5 of them still say that they want to be baptized and that they know the Church is true, they just can´t give up smoking, hopefully they can get over it soon. I also had the opportunity to go on another split this week, we had to go and get their car inspected at 7 in the morning in a little small town in the middle of nowhere. We dropped off the car and then looked for a place to do our study, the only place we could find was a Catholic Church. So, we studied in the Catholic Church haha. We also took some time to get up on the preacher stand and preach the Book of Mormon and sing some songs out of their song books haha.
This week we also had a big combined district meeting, my district
and the Frankfurt district came together and had a super awesome legit
district meeting. We got our Ward mission leader to come and talk to
us about working with the members and worked on a lot of the problems
that we had seen with our 2 districts, I think everyone had a really
nice time and learned a lot.
Anyway, I´m doing great, hope you like the pictures, thanks for all of your love and support! Elder Collings

Hello Family!
This was another crazy week, everybody left! Almost all of our
investigators are out of town for the next 3 weeks so we have TONS of
finding time. It´s such a big difference from what we had just a
little while ago, but, we´ll find some more =) We found a way awesome
but really weird guy this week named Peter K. He is going
through the bible word for word and then for every word writing every
verse in the bible that has that word in it. He´s been at it for
about a year and a half and is 1/3 through the whole bible. We helped
him set up his new appartment and put furniture together as a service
project and talked about the gospel the entire time, he now wants to
do the same thing to the Book of Mormon haha.
Things are going great, we have an amazing combined district
meeting planned up this next week, President Schwartz is coming along
with our Ward Mission leader and a couple of other members, I´m way
excited. We´re going to really talk about how we can bring the
Missionary work and the Member Missionary work together,
because right now it´s basically just the Missionary work doing
everything haha. It´ll be awesome. This week is also the last week
of the transfer, we like to do transfer guesses because it´s like the
only big change we really deal with in missionary work haha, and
everyone said I´m leaving, except me =) Guess we´ll see haha.
Thanks for everything, you´re all awesome!

March 5, 2012

Hey, it´s starting to get warm again =)
This week has been super awesome, it´s been lke 16 grad all week,
it feels like heaven. I had the opportunity to go to the temple
today, it´s always awesome to go in and feel the spirit there, it´s
even cooler to have it all in German haha. I had the opportunity of
doing the work for someone from the Netherlands, the town wasn´t too
far away from where Elder H comes from, but, I guess everything in
the Netherlands is close haha. I´m not going to lie, it´s hard to
think back on what has happened this last week, I feel like I was
writing an e-mail yesterday and nothing has happened, but, like tons
of stuff has happened! We had a way super awesome zone conference,
one of the main things President Schwarz talked about how the members
need to be more friendly with our Investigators when they come too
church. He said that compared to the rest of Europe we need like 3X as
many people at Church per baptism. He then talked about how in
Portugal whenever someone comes to Church, at least 10 people stand up
and go greet the person and then sit with them in the back. He said
it didn´t matter if it was in the middle of a talk or a prayer, they
always had 10 people ready. He then talked about how the Gospel is
for the individual, and it is our job to make sure every investigator
that comes in knows that they are accepted and that they are with
Saints. He then committed us all to give this idea to the Wards and
tell them to do it
I was basically feeling super pumped and excited to share this
wonderful story with our Ward, I imagined it would be the thing to
turn Offenbach around and baptize more than 1 person every other year
haha, I guess I was expecting angels and hallelujahs and stuff. So,
we had Ward Council tha same night, I was so excited. Once it was
our turn to talk about the missionary work, we told them about the new
investigators we had, and the progress of others, and then the ward
asked what they could do to help. We told them that none of our
investigators knows any of them, and that when they come to Church
they get a few hello´s, but, they don´t really have friends, so, we
then told them the Portugal story and how President wants us all to do
that and how it would change the missionary work as we know it. I was
expecting praises, but I think we could compare it more to the "Stoning
of Steven" haha. They were not happy with me. For the next 30 minutes
the Ward council took turns telling us how if we wanted the
investigators to have friends, they need to come at least 15 minutes
early to Sacrament, and then we need to walk them up to each of the
members and introduce them. It wasn´t exactly what I thought was
going to happen haha. So..... after that, they didn´t give us anymore
time to talk about other things we wanted to do with the Ward, they
just moved on. We´re now expecting a surprise visit from the Stake
President and President Schwartz in the next couple of weeks.
Other than that little experience, things are going awesome. My
first week here in Offenbach with Elder H (#1), we found about 4
different Families, and then lost contact with all of them, but, this
last week we came in contact with all of them again haha. We saw 2 of
them randomly on the street, they invited us to come back and said
they had been expecting us, and then we just stopped by the other 2
and they invited us in and asked where we had been the last 5 months
haha. It was way awesome and I´m excited to teach them again. We
also have been teaching these 5 Romanian brothers, all of them said
they know the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith was a
prophet. They also believed that their Church was true though. They
said the only thing their Church lacked was the Book of Mormon haha.
We told them if they took the Book of Mormon to their Pastor, he would
say it came from the Devil and Burn it. Then they said,"If he said
that, we´d just tell him to read it! He would know it was true if he
read it." On Friday we finally got them to understand the whole one
true Church thing, but, now they are going to Romania for the next 3
weeks haha. They were all praying for a baptismal date too. We gave
their address to the missionaries there, so hopefully they still meet
with the missionaries and go to Church in Romania =)
We also had something way funny happen. I don´t know if I ever
told you this, but, about 13 weeks ago back with Elder Z, we had
a Family of 6 come to Church, they were all Romanian. I had given
them a card and pointed to where the Church was, and they came. We
were pretty excited, so, we made out a time to meet with them. We
went to teach them, and he talked about how his wife was a prophet and
how she could heal people. We asked them what they expected from our
visits, and he told us a car 2,000€ and a Book of Mormon haha. We
gave them the Book of Mormon and then told them the only thing we
could help them with was to get an answer from God through the Holy
Ghost to know how to enjoy all of the blessings that he has prepared
for us. Then he asked where he had to go to get a car haha. So, we
told them we couldn´t help them, but, if they ever wanted to receive
divine revelation to call us. Well, this family showed up to Church
again. This time they asked if they could have a house, a car, and
2,000€ haha. Our Branch president said I´m not allowed to give Church
tours to anymore romanians (We´ve had a couple of other random guys
come in begging for money). But then the funniest thing was that
after they met with the Branch President and asked him for all this
stuff, they walked outside, got in a car, and then got out and started
looking at another car. They put something on the windshield and
drove away. So, first of all they had a car already. And then the
card they left said that they were interested in buying this other car
that they´d pay in cash and would do it at anytime of the day haha.
Anyway, things are going great, thanks for everything you do for me!
